TWS earbuds are among the tightest packaging environments in consumer audio: the receiver must fit beside the battery, antenna and electronics, stay efficient enough for battery life, and still deliver clear, detailed highs. Here is the selection order we recommend when choosing a balanced armature receiver for a TWS design.
1. Start with the acoustic chamber, not the receiver
The available cavity volume and the target frequency response define the receiver size class you can consider. Measure the chamber in your CAD model, then shortlist receivers whose outer dimensions fit with clearance for the nozzle or tube. Our TWS earbud receiver solutions page shows the compact families we recommend for this application.
2. Check size and weight first
In TWS designs every milligram counts. Compact series such as EWK are built for small enclosures and low weight, which leaves room for the rest of your BOM. If the shell is unusually small, a receiver without a tube can simplify the fit inside the acoustic chamber.
3. Match impedance and sensitivity to your amplifier
The driver stage in a TWS earbud has limited voltage and current. Compare the receiver’s DCR and sensitivity against your amplifier’s drive capability at the frequencies where your target response needs the most output. Lower-DCR variants in the EWDK series support designs that need more output per drive voltage.
4. Single receiver or hybrid?
A single balanced armature receiver keeps the design simple and low-cost. If the target requires stronger low-frequency output, a hybrid configuration with a dynamic driver for the lows and a balanced armature for the highs is a common alternative. Review the full model range on the products page to see single and multi-way options.
5. Validate with samples before tooling
Datasheets tell you the nominal performance; your enclosure determines the final sound. Order samples of your shortlisted models, measure them in the actual acoustic chamber, and compare the result against the target curve. Start with a sample request, and our engineers will help you confirm which model to prototype.
